The Sounds That Pick Your Brain
By Contessa Abono
“We are living on the best planet in the solar system,” said Angel Nova, guitarist and vocalist, for The Phenomenauts, who reign from “earth’s capital,” Oakland, CA.
It’s clear why Nova loves earth after the way 2008 has been going for the band that lives life like a never-ending-space-mountain-ride.
After a sold out CD release show at Slims March 29, The Phenomenauts have officially launched their third full-length album, “For All Mankind.”
“For All Mankind," which is packaged in a uniquely designed shape that folds out into a rocket ship, also comes with a custom Phenomenauts logo pin and booklet. But besides the pre-sale of the new album what everyone was at the show for was the live on stage action.
The P-Nauts opened with a new anthem song, “all go for launch,” which featured guest percussionists who, along with the band, created a silhouette effect before the curtain rose. “This was the first time I have ever seen them, the entrance of the band got me hooked, and the fans make it even more exciting,” said Dulcinea Rodriguez, 25, who is new to San Francisco and attended the show.
The set was packet with a profusion of new, fast, more-on-the-Rocker-side-than-the-Billy tunes.
The new music wasn’t slowing down the P-Nauts fans who were already singing the lyrics to new favs like “Navitron,” which is said to be about the bands tour bus navigation system malfunctioning. Another new track “Tale of Europa,” is a witty, lyrical blast into the world of the creatures whom inhabit the moon of Jupiter.
You can always tell a good show when confetti from an earth balloon and toilet paper (spewed by none other than Professor Greg's Streamarator 2000X Dual-Stream Emitter) covers the venue floor.
“For all Mankind,” will be released on April 8, so if you missed the March 29 show looks like you will have to wait until then.
But here’s something you can do in the mean time to get your dose of these science-fiction rocket-rollers, try your luck and enter The Phenomenauts Stellar Streamarator Sweepstakes at www.thephenomenauts.fuzz.com.
