Bay Yayers, Two Left feet have been through some changes lately. They made it to the Live 105 local band contest for BFD 2007 and have managed to make a name for themselfs while still having fun and being Good Housekeepers, lets find out more about them shall we?
YAY~ So lets go, Who am I speaking w/?
DJ: I'm Dan Jordan, I play guitar, sing and jump around.
TS: I'm Tom Silveira, I sing, play guitar and keyboards.
Congrats on getting in the number one position for the live 105 local band contest! I wanted to ask: what is the first thing you will do if you find out 2LF wins the competition?!?
DJ: I will be very excited. I'll go home and have a snack, go to bed and wake up and go to work.
TS: I will party like a rock star. Perhaps I will drink a beer. Actually it will most likely be a Sparks because 2LF endorses Sparks.
It’s been a long time coming that 2LF got some recognition, you guys want to spill some details on what went into making the new- The Good Housekeeping EP?
DJ: It was an interesting experience. We were fortunate to get work with Scott Llamas of Popsmear.
TS: Totally. Actually the process of writing songs had become very different between our first CD and this new one. After the big line-up change we had in August, we began to write songs more collaboratively. I used to write all the songs almost exclusively so I definitely had a certain way of doing things. When Dan and Tyler (Bass) joined the crew our band started to gel much better and good things began to happen. Now we all take part in the songwriting process. Steven (Drums) just got a guitar so I'm hoping he's going to come up with some fatty riffs too. We also spent a lot more time mixing this CD than our previous one. We really wanted it to be the best product we could afford to make. Right now we are in the process of writing songs for our second full-length which should come out next year. We plan on writing about 20 songs and narrowing it down to 12 for the CD. The songs we are writing now are pretty fabulous...but I'm also pretty biased.
So you guys keep your bachelor pads pretty spiffy then, eh? (Okay, you know what I’m trying to get at here right?) lol
TS: Well actually I am the only real bachelor in the band. Hey ladies.
Well, when your not cleaning the garage or making music what’s your favorite past times?
DJ: I dunno. I like to read books and go camping.
TS: Yes, camping is fun, hence our song "When Bears Attack!!!". I enjoy beer and Wii and sometimes the combination of the two. I'm usually pretty busy all the time, I work hella hours at Safeway...but when I'm not busy I really just kind of sit around with my friends, drink, play guitar and watch Arrested Development.
SP:
It’s really funny ‘cause when anyone says something about being hurt I always go “Oh, hurts so good,” so I was stoked when I heard the John Mellencamp cover on the EP! Haha, what made you guys pick that song? What did you try and do to make it different/ or even the same as the original?
TS: Back in the day when my mother drove me to school her and I would jam to that song. We basically wanted it to sound like a 2LF song. I think we succeeded more or less. Our buddy Vince from the band Go Kart Mozart is in love with our version of that song so we had to do it.
DJ: You should come see us sometime because we have a lot of other fun covers too.
TS: For real. It's all about our cover of "Stand By Me" though. Maybe that one will be on the next record. I get all American Idol on that one!
SP:
Creative differences, the song on The Good Housekeeping- was that about anyone in particular?
DJ: I'll let you answer that one Tommy.
TS: Oh you mean "New & Improved"? Yeah well...mama always said never kiss and tell. As fiesty as I may seem, I'm really not all about talking shit.
SP:
Got any last words?
TS: Why am I dying?
DJ: Come see us play, we have many shows lined up and we are more fun live then on our CDs believe it or not.
TS: Yeah, just come check us out. We have to put Concord Rock City back on the map. And when you come to our shows talk to us afterwards. Let's be friends. It's always a buzz-kill when we play a kick ass show and nobody comes up to us afterwards...maybe I look scary. Oh and thank you Contessa for the interview!
