Contessa -
Q: Tell me your nicknames if you have any:
Diana- We don’t really have any… mostly we call each other butthead and things like that!
Contessa-
Q: The Jefferson starship/airplane and The Grateful Dead were a huge ingredient of the psychedelic era.
Do you feel that the music itself was an important element? What messages do you think the music of psychedelic bands The Doors, and yourself were trying to convey to the nation of the 60’s- to people today?
Diana-Well I can speak for the now part but I think Dave will have to speak for the then part!
David- We were trying to convey a message to people, ya know to don’t believe the liars and to show people war is not particularly good for you. I think part of our message is to try and tell people to think for themselves but nobody seems to learn.
So, I’m doing it (music) again because it became fun again, and because of my wife (David turns to Linda and they laugh.)
I stopped making music for 20 years it stopped being fun and now I got pulled back in now because it became fun again.
Diana- and there is a lot you can say through music that is powerful. It really flexes the muscles of your first amendment rights to speak your mind.
Linda- Yeah, look like with the Dixie Chicks they were completely shunned from the radio because they were just voicing their option which is there birthright. We have free speech. Music is so effective and reaches so many people.
Q: Why was it time for the "The Jefferson Family Galactic Reunion” to tour?
David- It was just time. I’m just here because it’s fun. We all felt it was right and when we found Diana she was so giving with her harmonies and it was so easy to make music with her, she a joy…
Linda- It’s hard to find those people you actually care about and can make music with because the world is so screwed up and this industry is tough, this band is just a forefront to express our ideas.
David-You can’t learn a lesson ‘till the timing is right.
Q: Can you tell me anything about what you will be recording in Amsterdam?
David- What were trying to do is something along the lines of socially conscious songs. But that could all change tomorrow, ya know, you never know what’s going to happen.
Q: What do you say to some of those die-hard fans that feel that the starships “creative ideals have fell victim to commercial success.”
Linda- I’d say we were already massive way before so we have dealt with the fact that our music will reach a certain audience and market and that’s how it is.
David-I wouldn’t say commercial success is necessarily a bad thing either.
Diana- what kind of music do you listen to?
Contessa-
I love the Beatles and some newer bands like Rilo Kiley. What about you?
Diana- I like them too! I also like a lot of old heavy metal and tons of stuff.
Linda- We love all kinds of music, we’re very ecliptic.
Q: Explain the feelings that you get on stage in 3 words or less.
David- This is fun!
Diana- I love this!
Linda-Where am I?
(Laughs)
Contessa-This was so fun. Thank you for your time!
Everyone-Thank you!
