The Catholic Comb

1.- In ‘Anything can be,’ I like the melodic keyboards and The Cure inspired vocals, it’s fun and lighthearted. There is a fresh ,up beat feeling to this song which leads me to wondering how have you discovered your sound?

There has always been a sad quality about the songs the band listens to and writes. We also strive to make the songs somewhat danceable if at all possible. We have always loved music that that affects you on an emotional level as well as a physical one. What was it that David Byrne said? “I want to make music that will make you dance and cry.”

2. Catchy interesting lyrics are prominent in this album, are they about life experiences?

How do you work together and collaborate so smoothly?

I think that Adam draws his lyrics from many different places and experiences, being personal and many times not personal at all. I think Adam has found a way to describe a time period, a moment, a passing emotion from a sort of outside narrative with a strange kind of detachment from the subject in question that is very affective and beautiful. Also he has a great talent for writing lyrics from a character perspective. Most times the character being one far removed from his own or far removed from the character of many listeners. Yet somehow you can relate to these characters in a very personal way. How do we work and collaborate together? Adam will almost always have an pretty strong lyrical base and song structure together before he introduces it to the band. Together we fine tune and structure the rhythm, bass, and melodies in the song. Then it’s up to the whiskey from there.

3. In ‘Frisbb in the rain,’ guitars and fun bass lines lead you in as I dreamed of grassy fields to run through with my dog. What do you think makes your music stand alone, a different sound?

Simple. Lack of musical training, booze, romance, and imagination.

4. Are you into spreading your music all over the world? What are you plans for touring if at all?

World! We’re still trying to spread our music out of Concord! Just kidding. We toured pretty hard during the summer so now we are focusing on our next album. After that, yeah. Touring time.

5. What kind of atmosphere do you think your creating with your music? Do you want to give off any certain feel?

I think the atmosphere we try to create is story book like. Like a book you read in your room that creates something you can either escape into or apply to your own life. Either way I think Adam strives to right lyrics for people to have all for their own, anyway you want to feel about or interpret t hem.

6. What’s the most fun for you guys about playing shows?

House Parties! Most intense shows we have to date. We love it when the crowd is very close, intimate and intense. We love it when people are in our faces singing along and boozing. Other then that the best times we have are playing on acoustic guitars in the middle of the night with our friends boozing our asses off! Our neighbors adore us.

7. How do you keep from wanting to give up when struck with hard times?

See second part of above.

8. What’s your plans in the future for the Catholic Comb? Is there anything your fans should know about and/or look for?

Keep your eye out for our next Album “Sincerely, the catholic comb.” It is our most romantic, intense, sincere, boozed up endeavor to date. We have plans to marry the sound and sentiment of “The Pogues” and “The Cure.” Sound weird? Yeah, It’s gonna be.

9. Do you strive for realness and spire of the moment type action when performing or do you stick with the same central idea and not stray too much from the original way the songs were played?

When we play we keep to a pretty true to the sound on the album but we always try to engage the audience and create a moment that will stay with people who come and see us play. We always want people to leave feeling like something special happened.

10. O.K. just for fun, I say a word and you say the first thing that pops in your head, ready?

Strawberries? Bananas.

 Hamsters? Richard Gere.

 The holy land? J.C.

 Broken guitars? Pete Townsend.

 Wisdom? Huh?
